Ambassador of the European Union to Botswana and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Jan Sadek on Friday encouraged the country to renew its pledge to ban plastics.

Sadek made the remarks during a campaign calling for the clean-up of the Gaborone Dam.

The Botswana government indefinitely postponed the ban on plastic products that was supposed to come into effect on Nov. 1, 2018, saying it wanted to allow for more consultations, but the ban has not been revisited since.

Nevertheless, through these participative campaigns, Sadek said they are highlighting the importance of holding everyone accountable in the reduction of plastic waste. (Xinhua)
