Embu ex-senator Lenny Kivuti poised to head new Mt Kenya East party
Political bigwigs in Mt Kenya East are positioning themselves to take over the Restore and Build Kenya Party.
Proposed changes revealed by the registrar of political parties saw former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti poised to be the party's national chairman.
Kivuti is part of political leaders who have been championing political vehicles for Mt Kenya East ahead of the 2022 general election.
Speaking to the press at St Peters ACK Church in Mbeere North Kivuti said arrangements to have Mt Kenya East party are at an advanced stage and by September, they will pronounce a political direction for the region.
''The process of politics is not a one stop shop, the process of politicking takes time. You have to think and strategize. So whether we own that party[Restore and Build Kenya ]or another party I cannot talk about that strategy now but by September the sun will have risen,'' said Kivuti.
The former senator said now they are finalising on bringing all the leaders and locals on board so that they can speak with one voice for the unity of the region before the launch of the new party.
''Charity begins at home. There is no chance you are going to talk to Kenya when you have not even talked to your village,'' said Kivuti.
Kivuti, who is close confidant of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, said after revelation of the party they will gang up and rally all leaders in Mt Kenya region behind it then the mountain will gang up and propel the party nationally .
He refuted claims that Speaker Muturi will use the party for his presidential bid.
The leadership changes in the political party that Prof. James Ole Kiyiapi unsuccessfully sought presidential seat with in 2013 is posing questions whether it is the party Mt Kenya East leaders have been bidding for.
Many leaders from Embu ,Tharaka Nithi and Meru have thrown their support towards Muturi presidential bid with only a few leaders led by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya fighting Muturi Coronation as Mt Kenya Spokesman.
Speaker Muturi has received support from the three governors of Mt Kenya East that are: Martin Wambora (Embu), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi) and Kiraitu Murungi (Meru).
Munya has been saying that Mt Kenya region cannot have two spokesmen because President Uhuru Kenya who comes from the region was still in office and he controls the ruling party.
