Education officer blasts politicians for confusing students, parents by sticking unnecessary posters on school signboards

Kisii County Education Board chairman, Prof. Henry Onderi has urged politicians and investors to shun sticking posters on schools’ signboards and blocking them, terming it wrong and unacceptable.

He said politicians and business people have a tendency of advertising their events, services and products on the signboards, making it difficult for parents, students and education officers to access them since the details had been blocked.

The Education official said it is bad manners for the leaders and the investors to block the signboards and implored school heads to be vigilant and report those who mess up with the sign boards.

“I urge the school heads to report the politicians and investors to the education office so that they can be traced and action taken against them” Prof. Onderi told the Press in Kisii town.

He noted it was difficult for parents to take their children to schools and were forced to ask strangers to direct them, adding it wastes time and inconvenience them.

He also urged parents to prepare to take their children to schools on May 10 following the Ministry of Education’s recent directive.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta stressed during Labour Day celebration that learning institutions will reopen on May 10. I urge parents and guardians to prepare their children for the same” Onderi said.

The Board chairman appealed to school Heads to ensure that schools have adequate running water, learners wear masks, sanitize, keep social distance and that their temperatures are tested to curb the spread of  Covid-19.
