There is anxiety among school heads in Murang’a following a reshuffle being undertaken by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Transfer letters to affected teachers were released by TSC chief executive officer Nancy Macharia a day before the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam  results were announced by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha.

Some of those affected by the transfers claim the move is instigated by their colleagues who want to assume various positions in Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA).

Joshua Nderitu, the Principal of Muthithi Secondary School in Kigumo sub-county, has been transferred to Thigio School in Kiambu county. Kigumo Bendera High School Principal also received a letter moving him to Kanunga Secondary School, still in Kiambu.

Head of Thigio School Kamau Kamatu is set to move to Kigumo Bendera from January. Kamatu has been serving as treasurer of KESSHA.

Kangema High School Principal Irungu Nduati  has been moved to Highway High School in Nairobi. Irungu is a national official at KESSHA in charge of Drama and Music.

More transfers

Rwegetha Secondary School head  Lucy Koima, also the association’s representative, has been moved to a school in Tharaka Nithi county.

Central region KESSHA chairman  Danson Nginyi has been transferred from St James Kiaritha Secondary School in Kirinyaga county to Kivuthini secondary school in Makueni county.

An official with TSC, who sought anonymity, said more transfers of teachers both in secondary and primary schools are expected to be released before end of this month. -KNA
