Court orders Treasury to release funds to counties

High Court judge Weldon Korir has ordered the National Treasury to immediately disburse the equitable share of revenue to the 35 county governments pending an application filed by the Council of Governors (CoG).
The judge also ordered the treasury, its employees and agents not to effectthe stoppage of funds to the county governments without complying with mandatory requirements of the Constitution.
In the application the lawyers claim that the petition is based on Article 219 of the constitution which deal with transfer of equatable share from the national treasury to the county governments.
