Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has rolled out a mass drug administration, to control worm infestation that has been on the rise in Kakamega County.

County Public Health Director William Okello says the move follows a survey, which revealed that a large number of residents were infected.

“A survey done in September revealed that 53 out of 60 wards, have soil transmitted ‘helminths’ mainly the intestinal worms,” Okello said.

He added that schistosomiasis (bilharzia) was also found in 11 out of 60 wards in the county.
