Cops hunt for Kituyi in woman assault claim
Detectives in Mombasa are looking for presidential aspirant Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi after he failed to appear before the Directorate of Criminal investigations (DCI) officers in Nyali to record a statement concerning assault accusations against him.
Coast Region Police Commander Paul Ndambuki said detectives had launched a manhunt for the former Trade Minister after he defied summons to appear before them last Thursday.
“He seems to be elusive and the next course of action is to send detectives from where the complaint was lodged to liaise with detectives in Nairobi or any other location where he will be found to enable us record his statement and prefer relevant charges against him,” he said.

He noted that the complainant was still interested in pursuing the assault matter against the former United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretary General and police were in the process of forwarding the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further action.
“We cannot continue holding the file since the matter is still active and the complainant is still ready to pursue the matter before a court of law.
We will have the file forwarded to the office of the DPP to enable us seek a warrant of arrest for the suspect and further directions,” said Ndambuki.
Four witnesses
On Thursday last week, the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai issued summons to Kituyi following an exclusive story published in People Daily.
An officer privy to the investigations revealed that the politician had contacted his lawyer to reach out to the complainant identified as Diana Opemi Lutta to have the matter settled out of court.
Four eyewitnesses, including two guards and the hotel staff who witnessed the incident, have recorded statements with the detectives.
“Detectives have already recorded statements of four other witnesses who saw what transpired,” said Ndambuki.
Lutta had lodged her complaint at Nyali Police Station accusing the politician of assaulting her within Tamarind Hotel after she allegedly declined his sexual advances.
In her statement, under OB number 10/22/05/2022, Lutta said she sustained injuries on her knees during the assault.
Ndambuki said that a P3 form issued to the complainant had already been filled.
“He pushed me from the bed, and continued kicking me even after I fell on the floor, whereby I ended sustaining injuries on the left knee,” she claimed in the OB statement.
Not true
Kituyi has, however, denied the assault claims.
He said a report on the alleged assault had been made to police but was later withdrawn.
“Someone had written a report claiming I had assaulted her but it was not true. I have never beaten a woman in my life nor do I intend to ever do it at any given time.
We sorted out the issue and the matter has since been withdrawn,” he said.
