Commercial motorcyclists tested for COVID-19 in Rwanda

The Rwandan Health Ministry said that it has conducted tests on commercial motorcyclists for COVID-19 in preparation for their resumption of operation in June.

"About 1,000 motorcyclists from different localities will be tested for COVID-19 as a baseline health survey, which will help us know whether there are virus infections in the community. Those tested should expect results within 24 hours," Health Minister Daniel Ngamije said on Rwanda Television.

Commercial motorcyclists, on whom many commuters rely in Rwanda, are allowed to carry goods and offer delivery services under the existing measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, but are banned from carrying passengers.

He said that no community transmission of the virus in Rwanda, as health surveys have revealed, prompted the decision to ease lockdown measures imposed by the government. (Xinhua)
