Chinese pop singer donates assortment of items to orphanage in central Uganda

Chinese pop singer Cheng Lin on Thursday donated an assortment of items ranging from food to mattresses to an orphanage here in the central Ugandan district of Wakiso, 40km south the capital Kampala. 
   Cheng who donated the items to Purpose Uganda Babies Home in Katabi, Entebbe said she has passion for children. 
   She sang a few songs with the children and also played the Chinese violin. 
   Francis Mande, the administrator of the Babies Home thanked Cheng for the donations. 
   He said the Home has 20 children, mainly orphans and abandoned babies. The children are between the ages of 1 to 5 years. 
   Mande said the Home has another place where children above five years of age stay. 
   He said the Home, which also has a school, was started about 10 years ago. 
   Cheng was in Uganda for a concert as part of celebrations to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. (Xinhua)
