World 1,5000m champion Faith Chepng’etich will leave the country tonight for Doha with one mission, to defend her title.

Chepng’etich, who is also the Olympics champion over the distance, has refused to be dragged into the supremacy battle of who is the in-form athlete in Doha instead putting more emphasis on her races in the Qatari capital.

“Anyone who has made it to the Championships is capable of winning. That is why I don’t want to concentrate on who the favourite is,” she said.

“I have won the title before when running against Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba, an accomplished athlete. It’s unfortunate she has been ruled out with an injury,” added Chepng’etich.

While talk has been centered around the form of Dutch woman Sifan Hassan, who won the women’s 10,000m gold on Saturday, Chepng’etich is not bothered.

“Once we step on the track, we all have to fight for glory. I have not been in action for the better part of 2018 and 2019 but my level of competitiveness has not gone down,” said the athlete, who has been out to of action after giving birth to her daughter Alyn.
