Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi yesterday conducted the business of the Assembly  amid chaos as MCAs allied to former Leader of Majority Abdi Guyo shouted throughout the session.

The chaos show that the bad blood between the MCAs and the Speaker still exists even after a three-week break called to  bring the two parties together.

The Assembly sittings kicked off at exactly 2.35pm. But for 30 minutes, MCAs allied to Guyo shouted and sung, occasionally criss-crossing the floor as the Speaker read out the contents in the order paper.

“Court order...respect court order,” the MCAs numbering around 40 chorused as the Speaker conducted proceedings of the Assembly unperturbed.

And once she finished and opened the floor for debate, the shouting MCAs walked out of the chamber to the applause of the group supporting Elachi’s reinstatementEarlier, the MCAs engaged in fisticuffs after a faction allied to the Speaker disrupted a rejoinder press meeting of MCAs who have been orchestrating for her impeachment. On Monday, the MCAs vowed to move a motion to impeach Elachi yesterday when the sittings resume.

The chaos erupted during a press conference by some Jubilee MCAs who launched a fresh plan to impeach the Speaker.

MCAs allied to Elachi were the first to address journalists within the Assembly precincts, where, in unity, between Jubilee and Nasa vowed to quash any attempts to impeach the Speaker.

Nairobi West MCA Maurice Gari said that no ODM member will sign up for the planned impeachment motion.

Ziwani/Kariokor Ward MCA Millicent Mugadi said women shoukld be allowed to work without intimidation.

Hamza MCA Mark Ndung’u questioned the motive behind impeaching Elachi even after the party gave a directive on the matter.

Those opposing Elachi led by the chief Majority Whip Waithera Chege said that they have already forwarded their notice of impeachment motion to the Clerk who will verify the signatures before allocating it.
