Chaos was witnessed on Friday, October 29, during the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) preliminaries in Kanduyi, Bungoma county.

This led to the premature ending of an ODM meeting after the delegates failed to agree with the party's Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna.

They accused the party’s top leadership of interfering with the process and trying to force some leaders on them.

“This is a warning to ODM officials, they should not just come here and interfere with the elections. The party has been very stable in Kanduyi with the support of party members,” Joseph Maguda, a ward representative, said.

Maguda accused Sifuna of being dishonest, saying that it was not the first time to disagree with him in Busia county.

He also asked ODM leader Raila Odinga to ensure that the issues are solved in time, or else they will jump ship and join other parties.

Another ODM leader Brian Ochieng said that the top leadership should give the delegates humble time to pick the leaders that they want.

He said that the only way the party can get the best leaders was through unity and democracy, which had been threatened already.

Ochieng also called for the resignation of Sifuna.

Members of the party has reached out to Sifuna requesting that he heads to Kanduyi which is his home town and solve matters affecting the party.

Ochieng further said Sifuna had failed to do so, which was really worrying and a threat to the future of ODM.

This comes at a time when the ODM party made it clear that it will not hold nominations in some regions.

Through the party’s Deputy leader Wycliffe Oparanya, who also doubles up as the Kakamega Governor, ODM made it clear that in some positions the party will hand-pick candidates.

This was also echoed by his counterpart Hassan Joho who is Mombasa County ODM county chief.
