Former 10,000m world champion Linet Masai, who had an excellent career on the track and cross-country events, is now set for her second appearance in the marathon.

Masai, who is also the 2007 World Junior Cross Country champion, has been named in the elite field for this year’s 44th edition of TCS Amsterdam Marathon set for Ocober 20 in Netherland.

Masai, who hails from Mt Elgon but trains in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu County, made her debut at the 2018 Amsterdam Marathon where she finished fifth clocking 2:23:45.

She said she is unmoved by the strong field that awaits her as she prepares for the marathon.

“My training for the marathon race started four months ago since it’s my second attempt at this stage and I know that the competition will be tough but I am only concerned with my own race where I will be hoping to lower my Personal Best (PB),” said Masai.

In 2009 Masai became world champion on the 10,000m on the track at this distance, she became third junior a year earlier at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing (which was not awarded until 2017).
