Boost for ODM as Kisii top Jubilee official supports orange candidate in Bonchari mini poll
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has received a major boost after Jubilee Party Kisii County branch secretary-general Isaac Motari threw his weight behind the party candidate Pavel Oimeke in Bonchari by-election slated for May 18, 2021.
"He says Bonchari deserves new blood and fresh leadership," ODM tweeted on Sunday.
Oimeke, a former Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) Director General was nominated by the party, edging out John Billy Momanyi, a former banker and David Ogega, a former secondary school teacher, who had applied for nominations.
Oimeke main challengers are United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s) candidate, Teresa Bitutu Oyioka and Jubilee Party's Zebedeo Opore.
Bitutu is the widow of the late area MP John Oroo Oyioka who died on February 15, 2021.
Other candidates are Mary Otara - United Green Movement Party (UGM), Jonah Ondieki - The New Democrats (TND), Jeremiah Atancha - Agano Party, Paul Matagaro - Mwangaza Tu and Eric Oigo - National Reconstruction Alliance (NRA). Victor Omanwa - Party of Economic Democracy (PED), Teresa Gesare - Maendeleo Chap Chap, David Ogega - Kenya Social Congress, Mogaka - PPK and Kevin Mosomi - Party of Democracy Unity (PDU).
The candidates are hunting for 52,624 votes spread across the constituency with Bomariba having 9,039 of them, Bogiakumu, 14,338, Bomorenda, 14,532 and Riana 14,715.
