BBI still open for conversation – Orengo

Siaya Senator James Orengo has said the Court of Appeal judgment that upheld High Court decision to nullify Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process has opened room for further conversation.
Orengo said the BBI could be taken for discussion in other forums such as Judiciary, Parliament or by the people directly.
"The Court of Appeal decision did not affirm the High Court judgment in its entirety. There are some decisions that the court disagreed with and there are some that they affirmed. Some judges also descended," he said.

Orengor further said he and his team of lawyers agreed with the court on basic structure in amending the Constitution.
"We agreed on the basic structure safe for the fact that they said there is implicit provisions in the Constitution that are unamendable. As long as one follows the procedure that is laid down in the Constitution and there is enough public participation and civic education...every part of the Constitution can be amended," he added.
The Court of Appeal on Friday upheld the High Court decision in May 13 that nullified the BBI process bringing to an end a three-year constitution amendment process initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his arch-rival-turn-buddy ODM leader Raila Odinga.
