Ann Kananu sworn in as Nairobi’s 3rd governor
Ann Kananu has on Tuesday, November 16, been officially sworn in as Nairobi’s 3rd Governor.
This is after taking an oath today at the COMESA grounds at KICC in a ceremony which was presided over by Lady Justice Lilian Mutende
Nairobi had been without a governor for a period of close to two years after Mike Sonko was impeached by the Members of County Assembly.
Taking the Oath, Kananu promised to diligently serve the citizens of Nairobi.
Giving her record of work as the acting Governor, Kananu said she signed into Law the Gender Based Violence Bill which will ensure safe houses are built in every Sub-County of Nairobi.
The Governor thanked Nairobi residents for believing in her by entrusting her with the responsibility of taking care of their daily life matters.
In a heap of praises to NMS, Kananu said Lieutenant Mohamed Badi has ensured delivery of service in close collaboration with her office.
She has committed to work with the national government to help women through building of the safe houses for the gender based violence in the 17 Sub-counties.
“I want to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Nairobi County for believing in me as the next governor. I promise them that I will serve the county without fear and work with everyone,” Kananu said.
Congratulating Kananu, Nominated Member of County Assembly Mary Ariviza asked her to work without fear promising to give her all the support that she needs.
“As an MCA, I promise we will give her a humble time to ensure she smoothly runs Nairobi. We will give her all the support necessary,” Ariviza said.
Majority leader in the County assembly and Matopeni MCA Abdi Guyo also promised his support for the governer.
“We will give her the full support as a house to ensure that the city is well run,” Guyo said.
