194 people killed by floods in Kenya

Floods have killed 194 people and displaced 100,000 others across Kenya in the last three weeks, officials said on Wednesday.
Eugene Wamalwa, cabinet secretary for devolution, said the flooding, occasioned by heavy rains in many parts of the country, has also destroyed homesteads, business premises and farms.
"We will intensify search and rescue of flood victims, provide them with temporary shelter, food, clean water and lifesaving drugs," Wamalwa said.
Kenya has been experiencing torrential rains that has triggered flooding mainly in western and coastal regions.
Plans are afoot to relocate people living in flood-prone regions to safer grounds, said Fred Matiang'i, cabinet secretary for interior and coordination of national government.
"The government is planning a seamless relocation program for population living in low-lying regions that are prone to flooding," Matiang'i said. (Xinhua)
